The Škoda Octavia is celebrating its 50th birthday this year after the first production of the best-seller took place in 1959. The Octavia replaced the Škoda 440, also known as ‘Spartak’.
The company magazine ‘Ventil’ explained the meaning of the name in their January 6, 1959 issue.

The new Skoda Superb has added another award to its already impressive collection in the form of Sky Motoring’s Best Gadget honour.
Skoda’s innovative Parking Assistant beat off opposition from BMW and Renault to scoop the honour in the motoring website’s annual awards. Škoda has raised the stakes against its competitors by lowering the Fabia Sport by 15mm and giving it a sportier poise.
The modification will see a marginal price increase of no more than £290 per vehicle with the following new prices applicable to orders placed from 1 October:
